Obituary

Albert A. (Bert) Basler Sr., of Brockton, passed away on September 19, 2020 at the age of 73 after a courageous battle with cancer. Bert was born on July 17, 1947 in Jamaica Plain to Albert M. Basler and Mary Catherine (Kay) MacFarlane Basler. He worked in the printing industry for 55 years, serving as a bindery foreman for several companies over his career. On February 23, 1980, he married Christine (Chris) Weaver Basler. Together they raised their son, Albert, Jr. Bert was a passionate sports fan, volunteering for many years with the Brookfield Little League as a coach and field maintenance manager. An avid reader, he enjoyed nothing more than relaxing in his backyard, engrossed in a book. Bert also loved his dogs and was known by many in his neighborhood for his routine of walking them each day. His work ethic and love for his family was felt by all who knew him. Bert was preceded in death by his father, Albert M., his mother, Kay, his stepfather, Mick MacDonald, and his sister, Judy Basler Fortes. He is survived by his wife, Chris, his son, Albert, Jr., his daughter-in-law Jamie Farwell Basler, his granddaughter, Ashleigh, his brothers, Donald Basler and Frank Basler (wife Carolyn), his sisters, Nancy Anne Neville (husband Dave), Meg Baxter, and Barbara Basler (husband Barry O'Brien), his stepbrothers, Dan MacDonald (wife Beverly) and Joe MacDonald, his stepsisters, Jeannette Beaton, Anne Mae Gillis (husband Duncan), and Carol Anne Graham (husband Gerard), many beloved nieces and nephews, and his dogs, Dusty, Teddy, and Steve. Following Cremation, a Memorial Gathering will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main St., (Rt28) West Bridgewater on Friday from 12:00PM-2:00PM followed by a Memorial Service in the Funeral Home at 2:00PM (Limited seating due to COVID-19 Restrictions) In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. ************************* COVID-19 Funeral Home Capacity Restrictions******************** Russell & Pica Funeral Homes Guidelines when attending a funeral wake/service. All visitors when returning to their cars will please exit the property to allow others to enter. All visitors will be able to greet family members from a safe distance but not able to touch.
