Obituary

Alexander Kotsiopoulos passed away on May 2, 2020, at 91. He was born in Louvri, a village in Kozani in the Macedonia region of Greece. He was very proud of his service in the Greek army in Korea after which time he was sponsored by his uncle to travel to the US. He worked installing drywall and later building houses in partnership with his brother-in-law, the late Aristofanis Krikis, in Easton and surrounding communities. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Garyfalia, whom he met at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church. They settled in Brockton and were active members of their church community. Alex's greatest joys in life were family, his church, and gardening. He is survived by his son, Kostandinos (Charles) Kotsiopoulos and his daughter-in-law, Dorian, of Canton; and his grandchildren, Nicholas Kotsiopoulos of New York and Alyssa Kotsiopoulos of Boston. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Iphigenia Krikis and nieces, Maria and Ourania Krikis, of Brockton; his nephew, Steve Kotsopoulos and his family of Marlboro, MA, and his sisters, Haido Katsounakis and Antigone Papanastasiou, as well as many nieces and nephews in Montreal and Greece. He loved helping his church and, in his earlier years, was often seen setting up early Sunday mornings for coffee hour and manning the shish kebab grill at the annual Greek Festival. Every year he planted a vegetable garden and was especially proud of his tomatoes. He lived the last year of his life at the Hellenic Nursing Center in Canton where he enjoyed attending religious services and many other activities, but mostly delighted in his loving friendships with the residents and caring staff. Due to the current health crisis, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in his name to his church, to the Hellenic Nursing Center, or to the Greater Boston Food Bank.
