Phillips, of Brockton, January 10, 2003, Alice M. (Hilland) Phillips, 82 years. Wife of the late George W. Phillips. Mother of Frederick S. Phillips of Whitman, Todd M. Phillips of Brockton and John C. Phillips of Kentucky.

Funeral from the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, (Rte 123) Brockton Tuesday at 9am. Funeral Mass in St. Nicholas Church at 10am. Burial in Massachusetts National Cemetery. Visiting Hours Monday 5-8pm.

Obituary Information

Mrs. Phillips died Friday at the Brockton VA Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late John F. and Nora (Anderson) Hilland. She attended Brockton schools and was a graduate of Brockton High School, class of 1938. She graduated from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in 1942 as a Registered Nurse. During both WWII and the Korean War she served as a nurse in the US Army; in WWII she served in the European Theater. After the war she entered Boston College and earned her Bachelors Degree in Teaching. In 1951 she was recalled to active duty and served in the army in various locations until her military retirement in 1964. In 1964 she returned to Massachusetts and was employed by the Brockton Hospital as a Psychiatric Nurse Instructor at the Brockton VA Medical Center, retiring in 1972. She then worked for the Brockton Visiting Nurses Association retiring in 1974.

She is survived by three sons Frederick S. Phillips of Whitman, Todd M. Phillips of Brockton and John C. Phillips of Kentucky and several grandchildren. She was the wife of the late George W. Phillips and sister of the late John Hilland and Raymond Hilland
