Alice M. "Chickie" Stern, 79, of Brockton, formerly of East Weymouth, died Friday, Feb. 7, 2025 after a period of declining health. It was her birthday.
Born in Boston, Chickie grew up in Hingham, graduating with Hingham High School's Class of 1965.
While in high school, Chickie met the love of her life, Dave Stern, when they bumped into each other at a playground in Hingham and again at the Surf ballroom in Hull. They started going together, dating for six years before getting married on May 27, 1967. They remained married for 57 years.
Chickie worked with children her entire life. In the 1980s, she was a teacher's aide for an autistic child in the Weymouth school system. Later, she was a teacher's aide and later cook for Weymouth Pre-School in East Weymouth.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, David N. Stern, of Brockton, one son, Andrew J Stern, a business executive from Cambridge, one daughter, Paula E. Mulvey, and her husband, Leo M. Mulvey of Brockton, and three grandchildren, Kylee, Cali, and Mark Mulvey. Chickie was the daughter of the late Carl E. Schirmer Sr. and Alice M. (Ewell) Schirmer of Hingham. She is also survived by her sister AnnMarie Danubio and her husband, Lou Danubio of Weymouth, Ralph Schirmer and his wife, Mary Schirmer of Hingham, Doris Schirmer of Rockland, and predeceased by her brother, Carl E. Schirmer Jr. of Hingham and she also had many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
There will be no services. Cremation will be private. A celebration of her life will be held later in the spring.
