IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Anita
Hodge
October 30, 1939 – October 28, 2024
Anita H. Hodge of Milton, MA, formerly of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, transitioned to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday October 28, 2024. Anita was an amazing, beautiful, caring, intelligent, strong and kindhearted soul. She held roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. However, Anita's most rewarding assignment was as a follower of Jesus Christ.
Anita was born On October 30, 1939 in Fat Hogs Bay, Tortola, British Virgin Islands. She was the twelfth child of the late William and Clarita Malone. As a young child, Anita would have the blessing and unique perspective of growing up with both her brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews creating a huge extended family.
Anita spent her formative years around her entrepreneur parents and siblings. She had an inquisitive nature which led to her interests in sewing, baking, and the arts and crafts. Anita received her formal education at the Methodist Church School in the East End of Tortola. She was privileged to have one of her brothers, Obed "Mac" Malone as one of her teachers.
Anita migrated to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands in 1958 where she began her career as a seamstress. Although her compensation was very small, Anita excelled with her attention to detail. She became a master seamstress during a time in which her trade was in high demand. Yet the quantity of talented seamstresses were very limited.
In 1962, Anita met Geraldo Oliver Hodge during a chance encounter in St. Thomas, and they married on September 1, 1964. Their 47 wonderful years of marriage produced five (5) children. She became a devoted housewife and mother who extended unwavering support to her husband, children, and grandchildren. Anita and her husband ran a small food business while raising their children and was known for her famous "turnover" pastries. She later became a preschool teacher for the Wesleyan Methodist Church in St. Thomas, VI.
After 50 years living on St. Thomas, her husband's illness prompted her to relocate to Boston, Massachusetts. Upon his passing in 2012, she embarked on a new season of life which included a venture in marketing, selling her arts and crafts, painting, and photography. Anita got baptized at Jubilee Christian Church in Boston, MA. She re-dedicated her life to Christ, and began volunteering her time ministering to preschool children and the elderly.
Anita's joy and strong faith sustained her during many challenging seasons in her life. Her resilience sustained her during life's personal storms. She shared her kindness with everyone she met. She will be remembered as a woman of faith who loved God, her family, friends, and community.
Anita is survived by her sons Geraldo O. Hodge Jr., and Gilbert W. Hodge. Daughters Geraldine A. Hodge, Gwendolyn W. Hodge, and Gwen E. Hodge (deceased).
