Anne Marie (Gioiosa - Gurman) Desmond, 82, (Retired Brockton Police Officer), of Brockton, passed away Friday, February 9, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Patrick J. Desmond.
Born May 21, 1941 in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Edward A. Gioiosa and Anna May (Cassidy) Gioiosa. Raised in Milton, MA she graduated from Fontbonne Academy High School in 1958. She received her Bachelor's degree from Stonehill College in1981 and her Masters from Anna Maria College in 1993.
Anne served as a Police Officer for the City of Brockton for over 26 years and retired in 1998.
Anne was a CCD Teacher at St. Joseph's Church, Holy Cross Church and Sacred Heart Church. She was a member of the Brockton Police Association.
Anne enjoyed her family, the ocean, sending cards, casinos and desserts.
She is survived by her children, John M. Gurman and Caroline Driscoll, Teresa A. Aker and the late Gregory P. Aker Susanne M. Gurman and David M. Karp; her grandchildren Joshua J. Gurman and Kayla Clowers, Jonathan J. Aker and Marcos Valdavinos, Finnely A. Misner and the late Rachel S. Misner, Jarad M. Aker and Emily S. Aker, and Julia M. Aker, Joseph D. Karp, Brett M. Karp; her siblings, the late Joseph E. Gioiosa, Edward A. Gioiosa, John R. Gioiosa and Elaina Gioiosa, and Daniel Gioiosa; she is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Wednesday, February 14th from 9:00-11:00AM then to Holy Cross Church, 225 Purchase St., South Easton where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of her soul at 11:30AM. Interment will follow in the VA National Cemetery, Bourne at 2:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Anne's memory may be made too to the Southwest Indian Foundation, 100 W. Coral Ave., Gallup, NM 87301.
