Antonio Eduardo DeAndrade, 83, of Bridgewater, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2019. He was the loving husband of Germana B. (DoCouto) DeAndrade for almost 50 years.
Born on June 19, 1935, in Sao Miguel, Portugal, he was the son of the late Joseph Matias and the late Georgina (Sousa) Matias. Tony came to the United States in 1954 and made his home in Bridgewater.
He started working as a shoe cutter for Lucy Shoe in Bridgewater and then continued to work in the shoe industry for Acme Boots and Corcoran Shoes for the next 28 years. He then went to work for Stonehill College on the building and grounds department and retired in 2000.
Tony was a longtime communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
Antonio was an avid animal lover. He loved all animals so much he'd always have a piece of them with him, like feathers on his hats. Nicknamed "The bird man" and the pigeon whisperer, he was known for Tony's rabbit ranch and T&G Aviary. His passion was racing pigeons and spending time with his two grandsons. He loved to laugh & was always cracking jokes. One of Antonio's favorite sayings was "if it's free, it's for me", although he was such a hard worker and a kind soul.
He is survived by his wife, Germana B. (DoCouto) DeAndrade; his children, Elizabeth Galewski and her husband Paul, Christine May and her husband Ronnie and Teresa Andrade; his grandchildren, Nicholas Merianos and Randen May; his siblings, Adelaide Sousa, Liliana DeAndrade, Zelia Ashley and Clementina Pacheco. Antonio was also the brother of the late Joseph DeAndrade.
