Born December 12, 1922 in Fogo, Cape Verde, he was the son of the late Francisco Fernandes and Ilda (Monteiro) Fernandes. He is survived by his children, Maria Vicente, Antonio Andrade Fernandes, Florencio Fernandes, Getrudes Andrade, Joaquim Fernandes, Carlos Fernandes, Edite Fernandes and Jorge Fernandes; he is also survived by 19 grandchildren.
