Antonio Gomes, a beloved man from the Cape Verdean community, passed away on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at the age of 95. He was born on February 20, 1928, in Fogo, Cabo Verde, to parents Manuel and Julia Gomes.

Antonio, affectionately known as Pai by his community lived an eventful life in Cabo Verde, Angola, Portugal, and the United States, leaving behind a legacy of perseverance and love for his family.

Throughout his life, Pai worked tirelessly, ensuring the well-being of everyone he encountered. His strong character and dedication to hard work served as an inspiration to his entire family, proving that anything is achievable with determination.

Having endured the hardships of war and the loss of his wife during the Angola War, Pai remained resilient and built a life filled with opportunities for his children and future generations. He embraced the role of both father and mother, becoming a pillar of support not only to his seven surviving children but also to the Cape Verdean community.

Antonio Gomes (Pai) was predeceased by 3 sons, Manuel, Orlando, and Domingos, as well as his beloved wife, Maria. He is survived by four daughters and two sons, Julia, Ana, Josefina, Maria, Jose and Cando, along with his bonus son Marcelino, as well as 23 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

A visitation to pay respects to Pai will be held on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, from 4 pm to 8 pm at the Russell & Pica Funeral Home located at 165 Belmont St, Brockton, MA 02301. All are welcome to attend. The funeral service will follow on Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 11:30 am at Melrose Cemetery.

António Gomes, um homem querido da comunidade cabo-verdiana, faleceu no sábado, 22 de julho de 2023, aos 95 anos. Nasceu a 20 de fevereiro de 1928, no Fogo, Cabo Verde, filho de Manuel e Júlia Gomes.

António, carinhosamente conhecido como Pai pela sua comunidade, viveu uma vida feliz e outros tristes em Cabo Verde, Angola, Portugal e Estados Unidos, deixando um legado de perseverança e amor pela sua família.

Ao longo de sua vida, Pai trabalhou incansavelmente, garantindo o bem-estar de todos que encontrou. O seu forte carácter e dedicação ao trabalho árduo serviram de inspiração a toda a sua família, provando que tudo é alcançável com determinação.

Tendo suportado as dificuldades da guerra e a perda da sua esposa durante a Guerra de Angola, Pai manteve-se resiliente e construiu uma vida cheia de oportunidades para os seus filhos e gerações futuras. Abraçou o papel de pai e mãe, tornando-se um pilar de apoio não só para os seus sete filhos sobreviventes, mas também para a comunidade cabo-verdiana.

Pai foi falecido despois dos tres filhos, Manuel, Orlando e Domingos e sua esposa Maria. Deixa quatro filhas e dois filho, Júlia, Ana, Josefina, Maria, José e Cando e o filho adotivo Marcelino, 23 netos e 34 bisnetos.

A visita do Pai está prevista para quarta-feira, 26 de Julho de 2023, das 16h às 20h. A visita será na casa funerária Russell & Pica em 165 Belmont St, Brockton, MA 02301. Todos estão convidados a participar. O funeral seguirá na quinta-feira, 27 de Julho de 2023, às 11:30h, no Cemitério Melrose.
