He was the husband of Ana Maria (Miranda) Barbosa Mendes. Born January 17, 1942 in Lisbon, Portugal, he was the son of the late Sergio Barbosa Mendes and Candida Borja Barbosa Mendes. He is survived by his wife, Ana Maria (Miranda) Barbosa; his four children, Candida Manuela Machado Barbosa Mendes DeSousa, Antonio Sergio Machado Barbosa Mendes, Ana Cristina Machado Barbosa Mendes and Marta Miranda Barbosa Mendes.
