Armond Celeste Colombo, 87, of Brockton, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2018. Husband of 63 years to Elizabeth "Betty" (Marchegiano) Colombo: father of Peter, Daniel, Donald, Beth, Armond, Jr., and Thomas; grandfather of 13.
Armond taught physical education and coached high school football from 1960 to 2003 at Archbishop Williams High School (1960 – 1968) in Braintree and Brockton High School (1969 – 2003). Armond graduated from Brockton High School in 1949 where he excelled in the classroom and on the playing field. He continued pursuing his education and playing sports, mostly baseball and graduated from Stonehill College in 1955. After college Armond played semi-pro baseball in Canada for 2 summers before settling in Brockton with Betty and his growing family and beginning his teaching and coaching careers.
Following cremation, a Memorial gathering will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Thursday, November 1st from 3:00-8:00PM. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul on Friday at 10:30AM in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 439 West St., Brockton followed by a funeral procession to drive past the Armond C. Colombo Field at Brockton High School. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Armond's memory can be made to the Boxer Football Alumni Club, C/O Thomas Coots, 140 Samuel Ave., West Bridgewater, MA 02379.
****The Russell & Pica Funeral Home has announced that during the wake on Thursday from 3:00-8:00PM there will be an opportunity for the public to greet the Colombo family and pay their respects to Coach Colombo OR for those that have limited time, there will be an opportunity to only pay their respects to Coach Colombo without greeting the family.
