Downs, of Brockton, October 22, 2001 Atty. Willis A. “Red” Downs, 80 years. Husband of the late Josephine “Jo” (Evans) Downs. Father of Clark, Elizabeth and Mary Downs of Maryland, Peter of Connecticut, and Diana Marini of Natick. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Congregational Church, 1350 Pleasant Street, Brockton, Saturday Nov. 24, 2001 at 10 a.m.

Attorney Willis A. Downs died Monday, October 22, 2001 after a brief illness. He had been a life long Brockton resident. He graduated from Brockton High School in 1939 and Boston University School of Law in 1947. He practiced law for 52 years in the Brockton area and served as President of Plymouth County Bar Association, Vice President of the Massachusetts Bar Association and Town Counsel for Avon and West Bridgewater. He had been active in civic affairs and served on the Board of the Massasoit Community College, Brockton. He was a member of Christ Congregational Church and the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company and was a past Grand Master of the Masonic Temple of St. George’s Lodge. During WW II, he served in the US Marine Corps as a bomber pilot, with a rank of Captain and saw combat in the Philippines. He was twice awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.
