Aurelio A. "Ray" Eaniri, 85, of Brockton, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2012 at the West Acres Nursing Rehabilitation Center after a lingering illness. His family was with him at the time of passing. He was the beloved husband of the late Patricia (Drew) Eaniri who passed away in October, 2007. They were married for 59 years.
Born in Rockland on January 4, 1927, he was the son of the late Luigi and Antoinette (Porrazzo) Ianiri. He attended Rockland Public Schools. He and his family moved to Brockton in the early 1940's. In May of 1944 at the age of 17 he enlisted into the United States Navy. He served during World War II, and was given an Honorable Discharge on May 20, 1946.
He worked for many years in the clothing business as a presser. He worked at Paramont Cleaners in Brockton for many years before becoming a Custodian for the Brockton Public Schools, where he worked for 25 years retiring in June of 1995.
Ray loved his sports and was a strong supporter of the Boston Celtics. He also enjoyed his community and paid close attention to city politics, especially once his son became involved in local government. He was also a member of the Rockland Son's of Italy for many years.
He is survived by his children, Cheryll (Eaniri) Zarrella-Burke of Quincy and Brockton's Ward 3 City Councilor Dennis R. Eaniri; his three grandchildren, Joseph, Michael and Traci Zarrella; his four great-grandchildren, Devlin, Casey, Corey and Brynn Noonan; his brother-in-law, Robert Brazil of North Dighton; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Josephine (Ianiri) Pero and Julia (Ianiri) Brazil.
Funeral Information
Funeral services will be held in the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Friday, July 6th at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home Thursday from 4:00PM-7:00PM.
