Autilia Barros Fonseca

Autilia Barros Fonseca, of Brockton, passed away at the age of 70.

Born on March 11, 1956, on the Island of Brava, Cape Verde, Autilia was the daughter of the late Joao Gonsalves Silva and Antonia Barros Delgado. She immigrated to Brockton, Massachusetts in 1986, where she built a life centered on family, friendship and community.

In 2001, she married her beloved husband, Jose Fonseca. Together they shared many years of love, companionship, and devotion.

Autilia enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. She loved completing puzzles, sewing, arts and crafts, and making trips to the Foxwoods Casino. She was known for her cheerful spirit, determination, and strong personality. Autilia liked things done her way and was never afraid to speak her mind, qualities that endeared her to those who knew and loved her.

Although she had no children of her own, Autilia was a loving aunt and godmother who shared a special bond with her many nieces and nephews and took great joy in watching younger generations of her family grow.

Autilia was one of thirteen children and is survived by her siblings and their spouses, Manuel Silva, Maria Monteiro, Ricardo Silva, Jose Silva, Joao Silva, Ivone Gomes, Alfredo Silva, Ivo DaSilva, Jorge Silva. In addition, she leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her sisters Elizabete Silva, Olinda Calderon, Benvinda Dos Santos, and Eugenia Silva

Autilia will be remembered for her strength, kindness, resilience, and devotion to her family.

Visitation will be held at Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St, Brockton, on Thursday June 25th from 4-8pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Edith Stein Church on Friday June 26th at 10am. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Brockton.
