Obituary

Barbara E. (Hill) Shields, age 96 of East Bridgewater, died peacefully on July 21, 2023 at Good Samaritan Medical Center. Barbara was the wife of the late Merton R. Shields, Jr., and longtime companion of the late Bernard P. Painter. Born in Brockton, she was the daughter of the late Chester L. and Catherine E. (Boland) Hill.

Barbara resided in East Bridgewater for most of her life and was a 1944 graduate of East Bridgewater High School. In 1990 she retired as senior teller from Bank of New England’s East Bridgewater branch where she started as a teller when it was the former Plymouth Home National Bank.

Barbara was a volunteer ombudsman for Old Colony Planning Council. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, decorating and restoring her antique home. She also enjoyed taking classes as Massasoit Community College.

Barbara is survived by her daughter Susan E. Suchecki and her husband Kenneth J. of Hanson, two grandsons Kenneth P. Suchecki and Daniel M. Suchecki and a great grandson Kenneth S. Suchecki. She was the mother of the late Paul S. Shields and sister of the late Chester J. “Bud” Hill.

A Graveside Service will be held in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater, on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at 10am. Visiting Hours are omitted.
