Bessie (Karafotias) Jenkins Bessie P. (Karafotias) Jenkins, 95, of Brockton, passed away Monday, May 30, 2011 at her son's home in Tiverton, Rhode Island. She died peacefully in her sleep after a three year battle with cancer. Bessie was born in Hyde Park on April 17, 1916 to Marinos and Demetra (Douva) Karafotias. The family moved to Brockton in 1926. Bessie was the beloved wife of Russell L. Jenkins, Jr. who passed away in 1989. They met in Junior High School and both attended Brockton High School. They moved to California in 1956, but returned to Brockton in 1969. After retiring they moved to Phoenix, Arizona with her sister Helen to relax and enjoy their favorite pastime, golf for six months a year in the sun. She was a member of Thorny Lea Golf Club in Brockton where she played golf well into her 90s. Bessie was a loving caretaker for her parents and her family. She nursed her husband Russell through years of cancer as well as taking care of her beloved sister, Helen Karafotias. She is survived by her children, William and Linda Jenkins of Tiverton, Rhode Island, Carol and Wayne Knyal of Los Angeles, California and David Jenkins and Sara Holmer of Encinitas, California; her brother, Christy Karr of Agawam; Yaya will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Stephen, Robert, Juliet, Bradley, David, Adam, and Deanne; her great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Charles, Thomas, Gavin and Katherine. Funeral Information Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Monday, June 6th at 10:00AM followed by a funeral service in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton at 11:00AM.
