Online Obituaries Betty Jean (Evans) Simmons, of Brockton, passed away at her residence on Thursday, July 13, 2017 under the care of her family and hospice after a long period of failing health. Born February 11, 1952 in Drew, Mississippi, she was a daughter of the late John Evans and Julia (Ficklin) Evans. Betty was raised and educated in Mississippi. She worked as a dental assistant for many years. She enjoyed a good party with family and friends. Some of her hobbies were gambling, a game of spades and enjoying blues music. She was a parishioner of the Lincoln Congregational Church in Brockton. She is survived by her children, Sharon Evans, Ronnie Johnson, Jacqueline Johnson, Joyce Johnson, Kimerick Johnson, Angela Johnson, Preston Johnson, Latanya Simmons; her siblings, Fred Evans and Jacob Evans. She is also survived by her several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was the mother of the late Latoya Simmons and the sister of the late George, Ralph, Raefel, Claybourn, Willie Roy, Lazarus, J.C, Esau, Rescue Thomas, Lacenia, Evelyn Evans Williams, Creamolyu Evans Juitt and Julia L. Ivery Powers Funeral Information Funeral Services will be held in the Lincoln Congregational Church, 180 Oak St., Brockton on Wednesday, July 19th at 11:00AM. Interment to follow in the Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours will be held in the church prior on Wednesday from 10:00AM - 11:00AM.
