Online Obituaries Captain Edward A. Galante (retired Brockton Police Department) age 95, formally of Brockton, MA passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at his home in West Palm Beach, Florida. Born in Brockton, he was the son of the late Rocco M. and Marie (DiPasqua) Galante, and the youngest of eight children. He graduated from Brockton High School and earned an Associate's Degree in Law Enforcement from Massasoit Community College and a Bachelor's Degree in Criminology from Stonehill College. Captain Galante served on the Brockton Police Department for over 30 years, rising in the ranks from Patrolman to Captain. He was the commanding officer of the 4 to midnight shift for many years prior to his retirement. During World War II, Edward enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. where he attained the rank of Sergeant. He served honorably in the Pacific Theater of Operations with his Marine Squadron VMSB-343 "Gregory's Gorillas" and was a defender of Midway Island. Ed was married to and is survived by Elizabeth (Pollard) Galante, his beloved wife of 67 years. He was the proud father of and is survived by his son, Edward M. and wife Judith A. (Pileggi) Galante of Brockton, MA. and West Palm Beach, FL, and daughter, Suzanne E. Price and her husband Thomas of Brockton. He was the loving grandfather of Atty. Edward M. Galante, Jr. of Boston, Professor Christopher F. Galante and his wife Julie of Mansfield, Brendan M. Galante and his wife Rachael of Stanford, FL., and Jennifer Rangel and her husband Fabio of Quincy. He was also the loving great grandfather of Meghan, Katelyn, and Quinn Galante. He was the brother of the late Michael, Alfred, Eugene, Helen, Anita, Clara, Esther and leaves several nieces and nephews. Captain Galante belonged to the VFW, Sons of Italy, Moose Lodge, and was a member of the Brockton Bocce Club. He was kind hearted and enjoyed spending time with his family, and was very active in his retirement golfing, bowling, performing volunteer work for the Palm Beach County (FL) Sheriff's Department, and was a founding member of the Christian Club in his retirement community. Funeral Information Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (RT123) Brockton on Saturday, November 30th at 8:00AM thence to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 439 West St., Brockton where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 9:00AM. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours will be held at the Russell Pica Funeral Home on Friday from 4:00-8:00PM.
