Catherine "Kitty" (Durkan) Stoker, 98 of Brockton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 23, 2022. She was the beloved wife of the late John "Norman" Stoker. She was the cherished mother of Margaret Fitzgerald of Brockton and the loving grandmother (Grammy) to Patricia Fitzgerald of Brockton, Kelly McPeck and her husband Raymond McPeck of Easton, Brian Fitzgerald of Brockton and Kevin Fitzgerald of Brockton. She was the most amazing and loving great grandmother (Gram) to Kylan and Kensley by whom she will be deeply missed.
She was one of 10 children and leaves behind many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews, grand-nieces as well as countless friends who have been lucky enough to call her Grammy over the years.
Anyone who met her instantly fell in love with her British accent and felt the warmth and love that she radiated on a daily basis. She was always the first on the dance floor doing the irish jig with a highball in her hand.
Kitty was born May 3, 1923 in South Shields, England. She was the daughter of the late James and Margaret Durkan. She was predeceased by her loving siblings, her brothers Jim, Pat, John and Brian, and her sisters Nan, Moya, Nora, Sheila, and Peggy.
At the age of 16, Kitty left school in order to help the wounded soldiers in World War II. This inspired her to continue in the field of nursing. She trained in South Shields and worked her way up to Head Nurse at South Shields General Hospital.
After a trip to the US to visit some of her brothers and sisters, Kitty made the very difficult decision to move from South Shields to the US to make a better life. In November of 1969, Kitty and Margaret emigrated to the US, whereupon Kitty continued her career as a nurse, one that would span 46 years.
Kitty was an avid reader, story teller, world traveler, singer, dancer and the most incredible eye-spy player to ever play the game. She was a devoted Catholic who relied on her faith in every aspect of life. Her most cherished times were spent with her grandchildren, and later in life, her great grandchildren. Whether she was attending baseball games, gymnastics practices, playing guess who, or snuggling for a movie-she made every moment more special.
Her family would like to thank the staff of Brockton Visiting Nurse Association – Home Health Hospice for their compassion and love over the last month and a half.
Calling hours will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt.123) BROCKTON on Friday, April 29th from 9:00-11:00 AM followed by a funeral service at Russell & Pica at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
