Charles J. MacDonald
Charles Joseph MacDonald, of Brockton, retired Brockton Police Officer, died at home, with family, in Braintree on Friday, June 18, 2010. He was 81.
Charles MacDonald was born to Daniel MacDonald and Helen (O'Leary) MacDonald in South Boston, Massachusetts in 1929. Charles was raised in West Roxbury and moved to Brockton, in 1955 when he married his beloved Marie Concetta Dantono.
Charles MacDonald served in the army during the Korean War and served on the Brockton Police Force for 31 years.
Charles had a deep love of the ocean that he shared with his daughters. He loved nothing more than swimming in salt water and breathing the salt air. He spent many a summer on Cape Cod with his family, swimming and enjoying the local seafood. He particularly enjoyed feasting on steamed clams freshly harvested by his daughters.
Anyone that knew Charles well is aware that he was an avid football fan. He was most passionate about college football. He reserved his deepest esteem and passion, however, for the Blue and Gold of The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
In his retirement, he could often be spotted, clad in his Fighting Irish hat and T-shirts, walking at D.W. Fields Park. After his walks at the park, Charles would return home to be with his wife Marie and would read and work on his crossword puzzles.
Charles was extremely devoted to his wife, Marie, and three daughters.
When he was ill and hospitalized, he voiced that he wanted nothing more than to be at home with his "bridesy".
Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Marie C. (Dantono) MacDonald, his three Daughters, Carolyn MacDonald of Newton, Elaine Ryan of Brockton, and Susan Fernandes of Taunton; his son-in-law, Kevin Fernandes; his two grand daughters, Krista Marie Fernandes and Stephanie Rose Fernandes; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Daniel MacDonald.
