Charles J. Rox, 79, of West Bridgewater, passed away Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at the Faulkner Hospital. He was the husband of Claudia (House) Rox.
Charles James Rox, affectionately known as Charlie by all who met him, was born August 7, 1941 in Logan, West Virginia to Lewis Rox and Lucille Williams Henley, and crossed over October 6, 2020. Charles graduated from Aracoma High School in Logan WV in 1960. Charlie started working as an orderly in high school. Eventually, he relocated to Boston. His first job in Boston was at a meat packing company, but that was not his destiny! Going back to what he knew, he took a job as an orderly at New England Medical Women's and Children Hospital, now known as The Dimock Community Health Center. He became an Oxygen Therapist and then completed his education at Northeastern University. Eventually, he was hired at Faulkner Hospital where he retired.
Years later, it is where he found love again and began dating Claudia House She recalls him taking her for a walk across the street at the park, and he pretended to be lost. Eventually, they tied the knot, marrying on February 2, 1996. Charlie worked at both Lemuel Shattock and Faulkner Hospitals for many years. Bruce Mattus, although his boss, became and remained friends with Charlie. They could always be heard on the phone talking about the Patriots.
At 6' 4", Daddy was a big man, but he was warm, loving, and gregarious. Charlie was a dog lover and has had several dogs, as well as, he was quite the jokester. Charlie exuded kindness and caring, always drawing people to him. He always had encouraging and uplifting words to say, sometimes humorous. He would rarely take things seriously, no matter how serious you were, and the next thing you know, you're laughing. The best day of his life was when his firstborn arrived in 1964, giving him a new name, DADDY. He loved his children. Grandfatherhood suited him well starting in 1984 with his first grandbaby, lovingly embracing all his grandchildren as only a grandfather could. He graduated into Great Grandpa in 2009. There wasn't anything you could say to him now. He was excited as each great grandchild made subsequent appearances.
Retiring early, Charlie did not let retirement slow him down. He became very computer savvy and was known to get computers and laptops working again. An avid poster on Facebook, his post mainly consisted of politics, encouraging bible verses, and commentary on his adopted hometown Boston teams. It would not be unusual for Charlie to watch a game on TV and listen to another sport's game on the radio.
Charlie was raised in the church, and attended occasionally, but his walk became closer as he aged. He always made sure that his children went to church, and said their prayers, although he did not attend in their younger years. Charlie has been a member of West Bridgewater Community Church for 8 years. His favorite hymn was Give Me Jesus.
Charlie is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Claudia Rox of the home; daughters, Niquita Rox, San Antonio, TX; Stephanie Rox Strong, Huntsville, AL; and Cheryl Rox, McDonough, GA; son, Steve Rox, Middleboro, MA, stepson-in love Todd Blanchard, Syracuse, NY; stepdaughter in love, Stephanie Baran (Oz), NYC, NY; 10 grandchildren, 1 step grandson, 13 great grandchildren, sister Beatrice Mariner (Curtis) Mesa, AZ, brothers Edward (Thema) Fresno CA, Luther Henley (Joann) Columbus,OH, Luke Henley (Yvonne) Durham NC, baby sister Crystal Henley, Houston, TX; Godson, Ralph Robinson, Jr, Boston, MA, 20 nieces and nephews, 33 grand/great nieces and nephews, mother of his five children, Delores; a host of extended family, and an abundance of friends and colleagues.
