Obituary

Charles Tartaglia, III Charles "Charlie" Tartaglia, III., 55 of Wareham and West Bridgewater passed away on Saturday, May 14th, 2011 at the Tobey Hospital, Wareham after a courageous battle against Kidney Cancer. He was the husband of Lynne (Milbury) Tartaglia. Born on September 15, 1955 in Brockton, he was the son of Charles A. Tartaglia, Jr. and Mary (Costello) Tartaglia. He was a graduate of Brockton High School Class of 1973. Charlie took his four year fight with cancer to the fifteenth round and fought to the very last bell, with the extraordinary Doctor M. Dror Michaelson, Nurse Practitioner Kara Olivier, and their incredibly loving staff at the Massachusetts General Hospital's Genitourinary Cancer Center in his corner for every step. His family will be forever grateful to all of them. Charlie was an extraordinary man who combined the traditional outdoorsman profile in his love for hunting, fishing, and wildlife observation with the modern role of Stay at Home Dad, caring full time for his two sons from kindergarten through high school. Charlie was a member of the West Bridgewater Youth Athletic Association and served as a member of the Board as well as Equipment Manager for many years; he received the annual Volunteer Award for his contributions to the youth of the town. He was also a member of the West Bridgewater Youth Football Association and served several terms on their board as well. He coached youth baseball, basketball, soccer, and football for the town of West Bridgewater and was seen as a friend and a mentor to many of the kids, regardless of their athletic abilities. His dugout battle cry of "We caan't let these little weenies beat us!" will be remembered with a smile by a whole generation of kids who played sports for him. Charlie was an avid archer, rabbit hunter, fisherman, and shell fisherman who found an outdoor activity for every season and weather condition; he liked nothing better than to be in the woods or along the water watching the wildlife that surrounded him. He was a member of the Cape Cod Beagle Club of Falmouth, the Sippecan Rod and Gun Club in Marion, and a former sales expert in the Lodge at Dick's Sporting Goods in Brockton. He was also a member of the Wareham Lodge of Elks. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynne Tartaglia; his sons, Michael Tartaglia of New York City and Sergeant Steven Tartaglia, US Army, stationed at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina; his parents, Mary and Charles A. Tartaglia, Jr. formerly of Brockton and now of Bridgewater; his sisters, Joann Tartaglia of Boston, AnnMarie Murphy and her husband Paul of Middleboro and their children Ryan and Brandon. He leaves his brothers-in-law Roy S. Milbury, Jr. and his wife Patti (Sullivan) of Dedham, Paul Milbury and his wife Heidi (Lehner) of Boston, Will Milbury and his spouse George Leontire of Dartmouth, Mike Milbury and his wife Ginger of Needham, Tom Milbury and his wife Robyn (Glazer) of Peabody, and his sister in law Kathy Milbury and her partner Barbara Stavropoulos of Rockport, MA. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews who will miss his humor, fishing lessons, holiday decoration classes, and his dancing and singing avoidance. Perhaps especially, Charlie will be missed by his constant companions in the woods and the fields, Rush and the boys, Duke and Skeeter. Funeral Information Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (RT123) Brockton on Wednesday, May 18th at 9:30AM thence to St. Ann's Church, 103 N.
