Charlotte L. "Sally" (Smith) Britton, 84, of West Bridgewater, passed away peacefully at Southeast Rehab & Skilled Care Center North Easton on Saturday, January 19, 2019. She was the loving wife of the late Russell D. Britton for 64 years.
Born April 27, 1934 in Bridgewater. She was the daughter of the late Charlotte E. (Benton) and Alexander D. Smith.
She was a graduate of Bridgewater Academy.
Sally and Russell were married in 1954. The young couple moved to West Bridgewater in 1959 purchasing the home they raised their eight children and resided in their entire marriage. Sally was a stay at home Mom, but always cared for other children.
When her last child graduated from high school, Sally worked as a Crossing Guard and Matron for the West Bridgewater Police Department as well as working as a Matron for many other local police departments. Sally continued to work as a Matron until she was 80 years old.
Sally was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary in Middleboro and waitressed on Saturday nights while her husband served as Secretary. Sally enjoyed gardening, quilting, cake decorating, canning, reading, walking her dogs, enjoying the great outdoors, all types of card games, caring for her horses and spending Sundays at "Camp" in Plymouth with family, friends and relatives. She also enjoyed traveling with her family.

She is survived by her eight children, David R. Britton of West Bridgewater, Charles T. Tukis and his late partner, Allan Souza of West Bridgewater, Donna R. Richards and her husband, Bruce, of East Taunton, Frank A. Tukis and his wife, Donna, of Brockton, Dayle R. Britton of Taunton, Harold W. Britton of East Bridgewater, Gene E. Britton and his wife, Leslie, of Katy, Texas and Linda J. McDonald and her husband, David of Gilmanton, New Hampshire. Her grandchildren Susan E. Anderson, Holly Jean Tukis, Paul Michael Britton, Jamie Lee Levine and her husband, Matthew, Courtney Rae Pulkinen and her husband, Paul, Ashley Beth Almeida and her husband, Paul, Beth Rachel Major, Nora Lynn Britton and Sally Rose McDonald. Her great-grandchildren, Amir, Brian, Thomas, Joshua, Nicholas, Nathan, Madison, Makenzie, Makinlee, Ashley, Aislyn, Gabriel and Olivia. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the great-grandmother of Alyssa, who predeceased her. She was the sister of the late Mary Gasunus, Jean Boudreau, June L. DeArruda, and Edna Worchester.
A funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00AM in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 So. Main St.,(Rt.28) West Bridgewater, MA 02379. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Calling hours prior to the service from 9:00AM to 11:00AM.
