Chester "Chet" Alston Hill, 76, of East Bridgewater died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, June 22, 2022. He was the devoted husband of Margaret- Ann (Riley) Hill for 53 years.
Born in Brockton and raised in East Bridgewater he was the son of the late Alston L. and Catherine (Hughes) Hill.
In addition to his wife, Margaret-Ann, Chet is survived by his 3 children William E. Hill of Brockton, Daniel A. Hill and his wife Brenda of Quincy, Catherine L. Bearne of Stoughton; and the loving grandfather to Hayden Hill, Harper Hill, Hanna Hill, Harlow Hill, Riley Bearne and Reese Bearne. He was predeceased by his brother John L. Hill.
Chet was a lifetime member of the Samoset Rod and Gun Club, and past member of the East Bridgewater Commercial Club and the Forty-Niner's Club of Bridgewater. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as a young boy with his father and later with his children and grandchildren. He was fan of Doo-Wop, Hot Rods, James Dean and 1950's nostalgia. In his earlier years he spent time at the Golden Spur Speedway in Lakeville on the pit crew with his friends. He enjoyed car shows and cruise nights with his 79' Corvette , 68' Chevelle or 1930 Ford Roadster.
Chet was proud of his work as a Rigger for General Dynamics at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy. After the closure of the shipyard he continued work at TJX Companies retiring in 2010. Chet was a member of both the Industrial Union of Marine & Shipbuilding Workers Local #5 & Union of Needletrades Industrial Textile Employees Local #1999
Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt.123) Brockton on Wednesday, June 29th at 9:00 AM, thence to St. John Catholic Church, 210 Central St., East Bridgewater where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, East Bridgewater. Calling hours will be in the funeral home on Tuesday, June 28th from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
