Obituary

Chhin Yong Lor, 88, of Brockton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully in his home January 24, 2026 surrounded by family.

Born in Cambodia, Chhin spent part of his early life in China, where he attended boarding school through his early adulthood and became a math professor. He later returned to Cambodia, where he started his family, only to endure and survive the horrors of the Khmer Rouge—an experience that shaped his strength, resilience, and deep appreciation for family and opportunity.

In 1979, Chhin immigrated to the United States with his wife and daughter, beginning a new chapter rooted in hard work, perseverance, and hope. His life reflected the journey of a survivor and immigrant who rebuilt, provided, and quietly modeled what it means to keep going—even when the path is steep.

A kid at heart, Chhin delighted in life's simple pleasures, often pretending to indulge his children when it was really his own joy he was sharing. He was an early adopter of technology, feeding his always curious mind and sharing his passion with those around him. He was rarely without a camera or camcorder, happily capturing everyday moments at home and on family vacations. He cherished time spent with his family, from weekly trips to Chinatown or the mall, to summers down the Cape, and visiting family in Canada Vermont, and New Hampshire. Chhin loved to take any free moment for long car rides, turning even the simplest drives into special time together.

He is survived by his beloved spouse, Kim Seang Lim; his daughters Valaurie Rosholt (Michael), Davi Harte (Christopher), and Meelynna MacDonald (Rory); and his cherished grandchildren Christian Nguyen, Andrew Nguyen, Zachary Chhay, Keegan Chhay, Caden Harte, Tyler Harte, Austin Harte, Wesley MacDonald, and Elizabeth MacDonald. He is also survived by his great-grandson, August Nguyen.

Chhin's legacy lives on through the family he built, the sacrifices he made, and the example he set—one of endurance, dignity, joy, and enduring love.
