Obituary

Christine M. (O’Neill) McCarthy, 73 years, of Whitman, died February 10, 2009 at Brockton Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Chelsea and raised in Charlestown, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Helen (Sullivan) O’Neill. She was a 1954 graduate of Charlestown High School and had been employed at John Hancock Insurance Company, which she left to raise her family, and retired from Johnny’s Foodmaster in Whitman in 2005. She enjoyed spending time with her family, and was a communicant of Holy Ghost Church in Whitman.

She is survived by a son Edward McCarthy and his wife Jane of Brockton, a daughter Christine LaBelle and her husband Daniel of West Virginia; four grandchildren Joseph, Ryan, Samantha and Shannon; a brother Robert O’Neill of Charlestown, a sister Helen Jacobs of Dorchester and several nieces and nephews. She was the wife of the late Edward L. McCarthy and sister of the late Ann Duncan, Mary McDonough, Leonard O’Neill and Jean Reilly.

Funeral Service in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, (Rte 123) Brockton Friday at 11:30am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Visiting Hours Thursday 4-8pm.
