Christos "Chris" Giannaros, 70, of Easton, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center. He was the loving husband of Arlene (D'Angelo) Giannaros.
Christos was born August 9, 1941 in Brockton ("City of Champions"), he was the son of the late Rodanthe and Stavros Giannaros. Chris graduated from Brockton High School in the Class of 1959. Despite his 5'6" stature, he took pride in earning a starting position on the varsity basketball team. After high school, Chris earned his Bachelor and Masters in Education Degrees from Northeastern University and became an English/Reading teacher.
He started his teaching career in Long Island, NY, and taught for close to two decades at both West Bridgewater High School and in the Braintree public school system.
Chris changed careers in 1985 after earning the Series 7 Securities License and began his new career as an Investment Advisor at New England Life. In 1994, with Paul Duval, he co-founded and became the CEO for Genesis Capital Advisors in Stoughton, MA. He was proud that Genesis Capital Advisors became one of the top independent investment advisory firms in the country. He continued with his active involvement in leadership and relationship management until his passing.
He was an avid sports lover, especially basketball and tennis. General physical fitness was also a major priority. He was a jogger for much of his adult life. However, over the past ten years playing tennis became his passion. He joined the Easton Tennis Club, where he played year-round at least three times a week. He met many excellent players and developed close friendships. In addition, he recently added a regiment of weight training and cardio fitness at Koko Fit Club in Easton.
Chris has always been interested in giving back to his community and other charitable organizations that he felt strongly about. He gave freely of his time and talents to Rotary Club of Brockton, Alpha Omega Council, Charity Guild of Brockton, YMCA of Brockton, Old Colony Hospice, and the United Way, among others. He was also a strong supporter of the Foundation Fighting Blindness (a national organization conducting research to cure blindness and retinal diseases) and the Fidelco Guide Dog School in CT where his son, Steve, received his specially trained companion, Dakota. Chris and Dakota had a very special bond.
Chris was such a unique individual, literally "one of a kind". Some adjectives that describe him are genuine, generous, friendly, loyal, quick-witted, trustworthy, intelligent, insightful, empathetic, and honorable. He displayed all of these qualities and more with the greatest degree of integrity on a daily basis with everyone he encountered. Of course, his devotion and love for his wife and sons was always the top priority. At a moment's notice he would drop whatever it was he was doing to help his family, and was always there to support and advise during the best and worst of times.
He lived life to its fullest. Some of his favorite times revolved around music. His love of jazz music influenced his sons to fulfill their dreams of becoming professional musicians, and enjoyed nothing more than watching their live performances. He also enjoyed sharing good food with family and friends. He was referred as "the go-to- person" for recommendations of good restaurants. He loved to read and share information with his family about current events, politics, inspirational stories, and nutrition. He had a love for cars, whether reading about them, going to car shows, or shopping around for his next purchase.
Chris' strength, honor and memory will live on through his family and all those whose lives he has touched.
Christos was the loving husband of Arlene (D'Angelo) Giannaros, devoted father of Stephen Giannaros of Medford and Matthew Giannaros of Lawrence, brother of Paul Giannaros of Ormond Beach, FL; nephew of Christina and John Juris of Brockton, Connie Millias of Brockton and Penny Pappas of Philadelphia. He is also survived by his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Louis and Rosalie D'Angelo of Stoneham, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
