Clara Varros
Clara (Macrokanis) Varros, 91, of Brockton, died peacefully on Friday, April 15, 2011 at the Baypointe Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center of Brockton surrounded by her daughter and several close friends.
She was the wife of the late Nicholas Varros.
Born April 23, 1919 in Somerville, MA she was a daughter of the late John J. Macrokanis and Kaliope (Kakoyannis) Macrokanis, the youngest of their four children. She grew up in the vibrant Greek community there, with a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins, immersed in the faith and traditions of the Greek Orthodox Church.
In March 1957, Clara married Nicholas Varros, of Brockton, where she lived until her death. She worked with her husband in the family business, Varros Plumbing. They were well known in the community with a large circle of friends. Their only child, Anastasia "Stacey" Kaliope was born to them in 1959. Clara was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Brockton and was very active with the Philophtochos Society.
She is survived by her daughter Stacey; her only brother, James J. Macrokanis of Arlington and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the sister of the late Julia Meletiou and Mary Nonis.

Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on WEDNESDAY, April 27th from 9:00-10:30AM followed by a funeral service in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton.
