Obituary

Colonel Pasquale M. Princigalli US Army, Retired Soldier and Educator Colonel Pasquale M. Princigalli, 93 years old, of Brockton, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Marie (Capachione) Princigalli. He was born November 4, 1918 in Brockton, son of the late Michael and Anna (Zannolfi) Princigalli. He graduated from Brockton High School in 1936, the University of Maryland with a B.S. in Military Science and Bridgewater State College with a Master's Degree in Social Studies. He also graduated from the Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas with a degree in Logistics. His Army career spanned over 27 years. In 1968 he retired from military service and became an educator for over 25 years. He taught Social Studies at Taunton High School and retired in 1988. He served in World War II in the Chemical Warfare Service when he entered the service in 1941. He obtained a commission as Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps in 1942. He then served with the Corps of Engineers in the Philippine Islands in 1945. His military service included World War II, the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was stationed in France, Korea, Japan, Germany, Hawaii, Virginia and New Hampshire. He had a great love of nature and animals. He enjoyed gardening, photography and was an avid golfer. Most of all, he enjoyed the many travels throughout the world with his wife and three daughters. Col. Princigalli has been cited for meritorious service by the Chief of Engineers, the Secretary of the Army and Secretary of Defense. He has been honored with many decorations and awards including the American Campaign Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal, the Philippine Defense Ribbon, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the National Defense Medal, and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster and the Army Accommodation Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters. Col. Princigalli was cited for assistance in prevention of dike failure and flood in Holland during a winter storm in 1952. He was commended for his performance in the reconstruction of France from 1951-1953. He was responsible for the development of the Corps of Engineers Troop structure in the Pacific area of operation during the Cold War and the logistical support of the 7th Army from 1966-1968. Pasquale, or fondly known as "Pat" was a generous and devoted husband, father, friend and family member and was admired and treasured by all who knew him. He always had a friendly smile for anyone who greeted him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marie (Capachione) Princigalli, and their three children, Elena Bergeron and her husband Charles of Raynham, Lynne Princigalli and her husband Steven Strojny of Bourne and Marie Evans and her husband Sean of Victor, NY. He was the cherished Papa to Jonathan and Rachel Bergeron, Victoria, Mary and Jacob Evans and a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by his adoring family. Funeral Information Following cremation, a Memorial Mass will be held in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 439 West St., Brockton on Tuesday, February 28th at 9:00AM. Private interment with full military honors will be held in the VA National Cemetery, Bourne.
