Obituary

Constantine "Charlie" Savas Constantine A. "Charlie" Savas, 90, of Brockton, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012 at the Life Care Center of West Bridgewater after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Anna (Zotos) Savas. Born August 17, 1921 in Northern, Epiros, Greece, he was the son of the late Athanasios Savas and Fotini (Rossi) Savas. Constantine came to the United States in 1934 and served in the United States Army in World War II from 1942 to 1947, where he was a Tech Sergeant in the Army Intelligence monitoring enemy radio transmissions. He served in the Signal Core under General Omar Bradley, 12th Army Group. Charlie at the age of 48, ran his first Boston marathon and finished in 3 hours and 20 minutes. Charlie and his wife Anna were Co-Proprietors of their family owned variety store for over 55 years and also for 30 years operated a Hallmark Store with his late wife, Anna and then his son, Dean. Charlie in the last 2 years participated in the Jimmy Fund Walk raising over $35,000.00 for the cause. Charlie's main attribute in life was his kindness to others, his wish to please all people and his generosity in all aspects of life. A Brockton resident for over 6o years, he was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Brockton where in 2011 he was honored as a Recipient of the Metropolis Ministry Award for his outstanding devotion to the Church. He was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed learning about health and nutrition. He is survived by his children, Frances "Fran" Karimbakas and her husband James of Braintree, Constantine "Dean" Savas of Norton and Spyros "Perry" Savas and his wife Ethel of Brockton; his grandchildren, Stephanie and Christopher Savas of Brockton and Tanya Savas of Norton; his brother Irakli "Rocky" Savas of Lakeville; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Nicholas Savas. Funeral Information Funeral from the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Monday, January 30th at 10:00AM followed by a funeral service in the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak St., Brockton at 11:00AM. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours in the Russell Pica Funeral Home on Sunday 2:00-6:00PM.
