Costantino Charlie Pirro, 80, of Brockton, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2015 in the hospice care at the Life Care Center of West Bridgewater.
Born in Gasperina, Italy, he was sent to the United States of America at fifteen years of age to join his father, who had previously emigrated and became a US Citizen.
Joining the Air Force in 1954, he served as a radio intercept operator in North Africa. Honorably discharged after four years of service, he eventually went to barber school and practiced his trade for decades at his Holbrook barbershop.
He and his wife, Filomena Phyllis, raised three children in Brockton. A longtime member of the Conte Memorial Club in Brockton, for which he served as treasurer for many years. Charlie was also a member of, and volunteer for, Disabled American Veterans.
His lifelong passion was Italian Soccer. Whether hunched over the Grundig short wave radio on Sunday mornings in the 1970s or watching broadcasts on the Italian cable station in recent years, he avidly followed Seria A league games, including the ups and downs of the team he followed from childhood, AC Milan.
He leaves his sons, Richard Pirro of Los Angeles, CA, Mark Pirro and his wife Virginia of Wrentham and Robert Pirro and his wife Julia of Savannah, GA; his grandsons, Konstantin and Anton; his devoted companion, Tina Bailey of Brockton.
