David Verner Breen, 83, of Barefoot Bay, Florida, formerly of Brockton, Easton and Middleborough, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital.
Born September 16, 1935 in Brockton, MA he was the son of the late David J. Breen and Corinne M. (Holmgren) Breen. Raised and educated in Brockton, David was a graduate of Brockton High School Class of 1953. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from UMass Amherst in 1957.
After graduating from College, David worked for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan. He came back to Brockton in 1962 to work for the family catering business, Breen's Inc. David took over the family catering business at the Ridder Country Club in 1966. David later ran the 19th Hole restaurant for Ridder Country Club. He enjoyed traveling around the world. He was an avid Red Sox and New England Patriots fan. He also enjoyed bowling, reading and jigsaw puzzles.
He is survived by his children, David G. Breen (Mary Bracoloni), Kathie M. Lawrence (Mark), Mary-Ellen Freeman (Pete), Scott E. Hallgren and Sherri L. DeGrace; 13 grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; his siblings, Karen M. Krasnigor (Richard), Peter L. Breen (Linda), Linda A. Santry (Tim), and Diane L. Breen. He is also survived by his former spouses Ruth A. Cowan and Mary L. (Gomes) Kinch. He was predeceased by his sons Robert M. Breen and Bobby D. Hallgren.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main St. (Rt 28), West Bridgewater. Calling hours will be on Monday from 4:00pm-8:00pm. Funeral will be on Tuesday, October 30th at 9:00am from the funeral home, proceeding to St. Ann's Church, 103 North Main St., West Bridgewater where a Funeral Mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 10:00am. Interment will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in David's memory to St. Ann's Church St. Vincent de Paul Society, PO Box 474, West Bridgewater, MA 02379 or to a charity of your choice.
