Obituary

David Aaron Gill, 76, of West Bridgewater, resident for over 33 years, passed away Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at the Beth Israel Hospital. Born September 11, 1941 in South Weymouth, he was the son of the late Merton D. Gill and Alice (Hatch) Gill, and was raised on a small farm in South Hanson by his mother & beloved stepfather Charles Hatch, Sr. Soon after graduation from Whitman High School in 1960, Dave enlisted as a Radioman in the United States Coast Guard. Dave served until 1964 on the USCGC Duane & USCGC Yakutat, including time during the Cuban Missile Crisis & ensuing blockade. Upon leaving the service, he spent decades as a successful insurance salesman and was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 53 years. David loved to entertain and tell stories with a unique wit & sense of humor that will always be remembered. David loved his boys and was frequently found at their games & performances or taking them for rides on the backroads. He had a passion for American History, a desire to help Veterans, a love for reading & watching sports with friends, and perhaps most of all, Dave loved relaxing on the beach. David is survived by his sons, Aaron D. Gill of Athol, MA, Adam C. Gill and his wife Naomi of Bronx, NY, Andrew C. Gill of St. Petersburg, FL and Eric N. Gill and his wife Carolyn of Parrish, FL; his grandchildren, Mia C. Senechal, Leonidas J. Gill, Charles T. Gill and Olivia C. Gill, and several nieces & nephews. He was the brother of the late Merton Gill, Charles Hatch and Philip Hatch. Following Cremation, a Memorial Gathering will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 441 South Main St., (Rt28) West Bridgewater on Monday from 4:00-8:00PM. Private interment for family & close friends will be held in the Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater.
