Obituary

David William Pope, Jr., 85, of East Bridgewater, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the West Acres Nursing Home in Brockton. Born in Brockton, he was the son of the late Dr. David William Pope and Helen Catherine (Doyle) Pope. David leaves behind his daughters, Catherine Leger and her husband Denis of Bridgewater, Dorothy Pope of Delaware, Mary Towle and her husband Gerry of Taunton, Margaret Tufts and her husband Glenn of Bridgewater and Martha Pope Ingram of Duxbury; his companion, Anna Child of West Bridgewater and his former wife Meredith (Bangs) Pope of Brockton; his grandchildren, Phillip Leger, Gregory Leger, Ryan Tufts, Julianne Tufts, Lauren Towle, Kelsey Towle, Meghan Gentile and Nate Ingram; his twin sister, Dorothy Burke of Southwick, Connie Kuliesh of Brockton and William Pope of West Bridgewater; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late David William Pope, III. And Patrick Doyle Pope and brother of the late Barbara Ball. A veteran of the United States Air Force during the Korean War, David played the trumpet and French horn in the Air Force Band while stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas. A devoted father, David worked for many years at the Armstrong Corp. and Jerry Miller Shoe. He owned and operated the Home Café in Brockton and eventually went on to work for Massasoit Community College in the maintenance department for several years. During his retirement, David loved to travel, play golf, work in his garden, tend to his chickens and visit many clubs and organizations he belonged to. He was a member of the Bertocci Club, French Club, Conti Memorial Club, Polish White Eagles, Elks, Vet's Club, Samoset Rod & Gun Club and the American Legion. His time was spent enjoying the company of his family and friends. He will be remembered as a kind and supportive person, always there for a shoulder to cry on and a person who encouraged others to be the best they could be. David was a warm-hearted person who liked to tease and cajole but always out of fun. He will be deeply missed and never replaced in the hearts of people who knew and loved him. A funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul on Tuesday, December 4th at 10:00AM in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 103 Center St., Bridgewater. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Monday from 4:00-7:00PM.
