Demitrios A. Tsionis, 77, of Piraeus, Greece, formerly of Brockton, MA, passed away peacefully February 4, 2022 at home with his loving wife, Chariclia (Metaxa) Tsionis, by his side.
Born February 2, 1945 in the village of Thoknia, Megalopolis, Arcadia, Greece, he was the dear son of the late Apostolos and Diamando (Kouri) Tsionis.
He came from humble beginnings and learned the value of hard work as a young boy. His love of cars turned into a career when he started working at an auto shop at the age of 13. He later used his knowledge and expertise serving as a maintenance engineer in the Hellenic Air Force.
Following in his brother's footsteps, he came to the United States in 1968. He found the perfect partner in his devoted wife, Chariclia, and together raised two adoring daughters, Diane Tsionis Woodyshek and Bessie Tsionis. His proudest moments were attending their college graduations and walking them down the aisle.
He was a highly skilled mechanic who worked at Silko Honda for over 40 years and was affectionately known as "Jimmy the Greek" by co-workers and customers.
He was a man of great faith and a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, where he served on the Parish Council for several years. He was a proud member of AHEPA, the Pan-Macedonian Association and the Arcadian Society.
His greatest joy was being Pappou to his five cherished grandchildren: Michael, Taylor and the late Colin James Woodyshek, and Catherine Chariclia and James John Kourelis. They were his heart and nothing made him happier than playing soccer and singing Greek songs with them.
He was fortunate to have loyal friends and treasured the love and laughter they shared over the years. He was incredibly wise and had a "parimia" for every occasion. He was always first on the dance floor and known for his impassioned Zeibekiko.
In addition to his wife of 48 years, his daughters and grandchildren, he is survived by his sons-in-law, Michael Woodyshek and Bob Kourelis, whom he loved deeply. He was the loving brother of Philip (the late Athena) Tsionis, Antonia (Stavros) Androulakis, the late George (Vasiliki) Tsionis and the late Demitra (the late Yianni) Tamvakou. He was the caring uncle of Diane Tsionis Agostino, Stacy Tsionis and many other nieces and nephews.
He always yearned to return to his beloved village and now rests there peacefully with his loving parents. It brings great comfort knowing he is reunited with his precious grandson, Colin, walking together hand in hand.
May his memory be eternal.
Memorial donations in his name may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 457 Oak Street, Brockton, MA 02301 www.annunciationbrockton.org
