Desmond "Desi" C. Mahoney, 82, of Brockton and formerly of Uphams Corner, Dorchester, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2021. He was the husband of the late Joan (Brooks) Mahoney, formerly of Mission Hill, for 50 years.
Born May 2, 1938 he was the son of the late Patrick M. Mahoney and Margaret (O'Leary) Mahoney, both of Ireland. Raised in Dorchester, he graduated from Boston Technical High School. Desi was also a member of the National Guard for six years.
Desi was employed as a machinist by the MBTA until retirement. Following his retirement, he worked as a bus driver for the Easton Council on Aging and Dial-a-Bat.
Desi was an avid reader, enjoyed watching the Patriots and Bruins, listening to Irish and country music, going on yearly vacations to Old Orchard Beach with family and friends and attending family parties. Desi also enjoyed Irish whiskey and everything Irish. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandsons and watching them play hockey over the years.
He is survived by his children, Susan Leydon and her husband Jimmie of Savin Hill, Kevin Mahoney and Michael Mahoney (BFD) and his wife Carolyn of Brockton; his grandchildren, Patrick Mahoney, Jimmie Leydon, Joey Leydon, Stevie Leydon, Tommy Leydon, Jack Mahoney and Bobby Leydon; his sister, Sheila Reardon of Somers, CT, his brothers and sisters in law Robert Brooks, Susan Brooks Bath and her husband Richard, Richard Brooks and his wife Paula and Janice Lanigan and her husband Brendan; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother-in-law Jack Reardon, and his sisters Patricia Shamaly and her husband Patrick, Phyllis Mullen and her husband Leigh, Maureen Gile and her husband Eddie and Kathleen Hood.
