Domingos Jose Fernandes

At 57 years of age, Domingos passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, Rhode Island.
Born and raised in the Island of Fogo, Cabo Verde. He was a beloved son and preceded by death by his parents Manuel Socorro Fernandes and Ana Souto Goncalves Fernandes.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Monteiro Fernandes, with whom he shared his life since 1998. They lived in Providence, Rhode Island for many years and finally settled in Abington, MA in 2012 where they bought their dream home.
Domingos was a devoted father to Julio Denis Fernandes, Ashante Fernandes, Lucas De Pina Elwin Santos, Zina Santos and Eric Santos. Grandfather to Malachi Monroe, Alina Monroe, Amira Monroe, Erianna Santos, Heaven Santos, Maia Symonds, Ailton De Pina and Elijah De Pina. Dear brother to Luis Fernandes, Henrique Jose Fernandes, Manuel Fernandes, Maria De Lourdes Seidi and Jose Manuel Goncalves Fernandes. He was preceded by death by his sister, Felismina Souto Fernandes De Pina and brother Marques Jose Fernandes. Beloved uncle to 11 nieces, 12 nephews, Son-in Law, Steven Geraud Monroe and many sisters & brothers in-law.
Prior to immigrating to USA, Domingos served in the military for Cabo Verde and was proud of the years he served his country. He completed his primary and secondary schooling in Fogo and received his high school diploma from Praia, Cabo Verde.
He arrived in Massachusetts in the 80's and devoted his life to helping his family, friends and many in the Cabo Verdean Community. He worked for many years for John Lopes Construction Company where he was a construction foreman.
Domingos loved sports, in particular soccer. He was a Sporting, FC, fan and bragged about his team and had many sporting paraphernalia that he proudly displayed in his home. He was an avid reader and enjoyed books focusing on history and on his favorite pastime, gardening. He was very crafty and worked with wood to create beautiful decorative items.
Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St.,(Rt.123) Brockton on Tuesday, May 4th at 9:00am followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00am in St. Edith Stein Parish, 71 East Main Street, Brockton. Interment will follow in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours Monday from 6:00 to 8:00pm.

All visitors may pause at Casket/Urn and then EXIT the Funeral Home.
All visitors when returning to their cars will please exit the property to allow others to enter.
All visitors will be able to greet family members from a safe distance but not able to touch.
