Obituary

Donald W. Bissett, 66, of Brockton, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Tina L. (Astore) Bissett for 45 years. Born July 20, 1952 in Brockton, he was the son of the late Donald M. Bissett and Geraldine M. (Colaluce) Bissett. A lifelong Brockton resident, he graduated from Brockton High School in 1970. He earned an Associates Degree in Fire Science. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Donnie was a retired from the Brockton Fire Department, where he served as a Firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician. He retired in 2013 as a Lieutenant. He also served as a fire Instructor at the fire academy and CPR instructor. He was one of the founding members and the original Pipe Major of the Brockton Fire Department Pipes & Drums and he also played for Greater Boston Firefighters Pipes and Drums. He was also a certified scuba diving instructor and enjoyed traveling with his North Atlantic Scuba friends. Don was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting trips to Maine and belonged to the Ames Rifle & Pistol Club, Standish Sportsman and Hanson Rod & Gun Club. He was involved with the Mason's as Chaplain and Master Mason at Paul Revere Lodge A.F. & A.M. and all its appendant bodies. He was active in the Boy Scouts and was the former Scoutmaster of Troop #11 at Our Lady of Lourdes Church and the Brockton High School Reunion Committee of the Class of 1970. He was a member of the Bertocci Memorial Club, Conte Memorial Club and Enterprise Club. He is survived by his wife, Tina L. (Astore) Bissett; his children, Patrick M. Bissett and his girlfriend Karen Payne, Julie A. Hill and her husband Christopher, Donald M. Bissett and Joseph Bissett; his grandchildren, Collin, Gwyneth and Lilah; his sisters, Sallyann Carter and Joy Pell and her husband Michael; he is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William Bissett. Funeral from the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Wednesday, January 30th at 9:00AM thence to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 439 West St., Brockton where a funeral mass will be celebrated for the repose of his soul at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00-8:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brockton Firefighters Relief Association, PO Box 3341, Brockton, MA 02304-3341.
