Donald M. Smith, Sr. Donald M. Smith, Sr. , 70, of Brockton, surrounded by his loving family, died Saturday, August 30, 2008 at his home in Brockton under the care of his family and hospice after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Ann M. (Hughes) Smith. Born January 11, 1938 in Brockton, he was the son of the late Howard Smith and Gertrude (Dean) Smith. A lifelong Brockton resident, he graduated from Brockton High School in 1957. When growing up, he enjoyed playing basketball for the Porter Congregational Church in Brockton. Donald retired from the City of Brockton Parks Department after working there for 35 years. He was a great sport enthusiast's; he loved watching baseball, basketball, bowling, and football. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann M. (Hughes) Smith; his son, Donald M. Smith, Jr.; his daughters, Maryann Dodge and her husband Clyde, Jacqueline Leonard and her husband Dana, and Marlo Malone and her fiance John Burgo; he was the proud grandfather of Michael Dodge, Melissa Dodge, Justin Leonard, Nicholas Malone, Skyla Burgo, and Ryan Burgo; beloved brother of Howard F. Smith, Robert D. Smith and his wife Ann, and Richard H. Smith and his wife Ann; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Anna May Brides, Barbara Anderson, David B. Smith, and Beverly A. Decocq. He was the brother-in-law of the late Michael Brides, Shirley Smith, and Ronald Anderson. Funeral Information Funeral services will be held in the Russell Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt123) Brockton on Wednesday, September 3rd at 10:00AM. Private cremation will follow.
