Obituary

Dorothea C. Higgins Dorothea (Dottie) Higgins died suddenly Monday morning surrounded by her husband of 57 years and her three children. A resident of Brockton, for six decades, Dottie was born in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts on February 1, 1929 and raised in nearby Halifax. Attending Whitman-Hanson High School, she graduated Salutatorian in 1946, a woman of deep intellect. She was also star athlete and captain of the high school basketball player. Marrying W. Roger Higgins in 1950, the two began their lives together at Fort Campbell, KY while Roger served in the U.S. Army. Dottie and Roger returned to Brockton in 1951 where they raised four children. After devoting her early years exclusively to her children, Dottie later worked for the Brockton Public Schools. Upon retirement, she and Roger spent treasured months traveling throughout the United Sates in their motor home. Summers were enjoyed at their lakeside cottage in Milton, New Hampshire where Dottie has another extended family of friends. Her most cherished times were spent with her family boating, swimming, knitting and completing complex puzzles. Her memory is carried forth by her husband W. Roger Higgins, her daughter Sheila of Milton, New Hampshire, son Tim and daughter-in-law Denise, of Easton, Massachusetts, son Tom and daughter-in-law Karen, of Groveland, Massachusetts, and her son Stephen, who passed away in 1974 with whom she now shares eternal peace. Dottie is also survived by her loving grandchildren Daniel, Kate, Patrick, and Brett as well as by her sisters Estelle Ojala and Greta Wood.
