Dorothy L Cerrato, 89, of Brockton, Massachusetts, passed away on June 20, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer's/Dementia.
Dorothy was born on April 22, 1934 to parents Chester N. Johnson and Louise G. (Saunders) Johnson in Hartford, Connecticut. After graduating from Brockton Hospital's School of Nursing program she went on to pass her state licensing requirements to become a Registered Nurse. Nursing was truly her calling and passion. Her passion for caring for others was unsurpassed. She started her career as a pediatric nurse for Theodore Greenfield's practice and went full circle to caring for the elderly and retiring as a Supervisor of West Acres Nursing home.
Dorothy met her husband at a National Guards mixer in which she attended with other nurses of her class. They fell in love and married on May 21, 1960 and went on to start their family of four starting with Anthony S. Cerrato, followed by Lynne M. Florindo, Michael J. Cerrato and Judianne M. McKay who were chosen by them and God.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Samuel Cerrato and daughter Suzanne M. Cerrato, her loving parents Chester N. Johnson and Louise (Saunders) Johnson, and her sister Nancy R. Price. She is survived by her children Anthony S. Cerrato of Brockton, Lynne M. Florindo of Wareham, Michael J. Cerrato of Brockton, and Judianne M. McKay and husband James McKay of Buzzards Bay. Her sister's Barbara M. Breuer and husband Leslie H. Breuer, Marcia G. Holmes and husband Edmund Holmes, Jr., and Deborah Savage. Her grandchildren, Amanda D. Regan and Paul Regan, Dylan J. Marcal and wife Alexandra Marcal, Steven J. Florindo, Allison Cerrato, Darren R. LaChance, Jr. and wife Maggie LaChance, and Ryan M. LaChance. Her great grandchildren, Jordan S. Regan, Aiden P. Regan, Aria L. Regan, Makenna L. Marcal, Larya LaChance and Andrew LaChance; also to include special friends of the family, Mark, Jeanie, Haley, and Cody Stephens who were close to their heart and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Dorothy loved her family unconditionally and was always there for them. She encouraged her children to broaden their horizons and took interest in all their extracurricular activities. She loved being in The Red Hatter's, crocheting, knitting, crossword puzzles and solitaire.
Dorothy was an exceptional wife, mother, daughter, sister and a wonderful person all around. She will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.
A funeral service will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., Brockton on Tuesday, June 27th at 11:00 AM followed by interment in Calvary Cemetery, Brockton. Calling hours in the funeral home on Monday, June 26th from 4:00-6:00 PM.
