Obituary

Doryce Lynn Smith is the daughter of the late Beverly E. (Jones) & Edward Smith Sr. she was 65 years old. Doryce was born on October 15, 1957 in Brockton, MA. She passed away on May 1, 2023 in Milton, MA. Doryce is the third of seven children; due to unforeseen family illness the children were sent to Foster Care at early ages. Doryce attended Paine school, Stoughton Public school, Simmons College in Boston with a 100% financial package. Graduated in 4 years with a B A in Special/Elementary Education. Additionally, she earned her Master's in Elementary Education from Fitchburg State University.

She has held many professional jobs titles as Academic Teacher, Adaptive Behavior Specialist, as well as Exceptional Children Coordinator. She retired from the Massachusetts Department of Education as an Education Specialist in August 2021. Through it all Doryce held membership and leaderships positions in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, Boston Teacher's Union, American Federation Teacher's Union, Black Political Task Force, Black Educators Alliance of Massachusetts Coalition for Social Justice, Massachusetts/Brockton Democratic Committee, and has volunteered in Massachusetts for over 30 years. She has been involved in many community tasks such as door-knocking, phone banking, and food donations.

Left to carry on her legacy is, daughter Diyanna (Michael) Toussaint, and 3 grandchildren Nehemiah, Norielle, Novalyn, Siblings Benita (Miller) Smith, Tracy Smith, Stephen Smith and bonus siblings Diane, Barbara Ann, James and Philip Shoulders. Nieces Tamica Smith, Tanisha (Scott) Smith, nephew Tristan Fort-Smith, great niece Cali Ann Fort Smith, great nephew Bryce and Brandyn Lucas. Doryce also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends. She was proceeded in death by her parents, siblings Cheryl Marie Jones, Edward Smith Jr. and Robert Keith Smith.

It was truly a blessing to know Doryce, she stood for family inclusivity/diversity and social change. Her memory will live on through her loved ones and the years of service she has given to her community. There will be a Celebration of Life given by the Smith Family on May 28, 2023, at the Perfect Place on 2039 Main St, Brockton, MA 02301 from 1:00-4:00. In lieu of flowers, we would ask that you give a monetary donation to a graduating senior in the custody of the Department of Children and Families.
