Douglas D. Porter, 84, of Bourne and a former resident of North Easton of 44 years, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. He was the devoted husband of Nancy (OConnor) Porter for 60 years.
Born July 18, 1932 in Brockton, he was the son of the late Samuel C. Porter and Helen (Douglas) Porter. Raised in Brockton, he graduated from Brockton High School in 1950 and received a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and Finance from Bentley College in 1955.
While Doug was earning his college degree, he was a Senate Page in the MA General Court. Upon earning his college degree, he became a bank examiner for the MA Commissioner of Banks. In 1960 he began his banking career at North Easton Savings Bank as Assistant Treasurer. Over the next 42 years Doug was promoted to many positions becoming President and CEO, a position he held for several years until his retirement in 2001.
Doug was very active in his community. He was Treasurer and Welfare Secretary of the local Salvation Army. Doug served as the first Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Good Samaritan Medical Center and was a long-time Board member. He served many years as Treasurer and Board Member for the Frothingham Memorial Park and Ames Free Library in Easton. Douglas Porter also served on the Development Committee at Stonehill College for several years.
He was a manager and coach in Easton Little League for 12 years in which his 3 boys played on his team. He also coached an American Legion baseball team.
In addition to his loving wife Nancy, he is survived by his children; David with Jennifer of Foxboro, Paul and his wife Kaye of Plymouth, Stephen and his wife Cynthia of Abington, and Donna Farmer and her husband Tim of Milton, along with his 12 grandchildren who are Doug, Alexandra, Will and Nicholas, Samuel and Lilliana, Garrett, Dylan, and Ava, and Baby Timothy, Stevie and Molly. He is also survived by his sister Jean Kehoe and niece Debbie Hance. He is known as Uncle Doug to many nieces and nephews.
