Edgar Peter Guaraldi “Eddie”, age 101, passed away on April 1st, 2026.
Born on June 29, 1924, in Bourne, MA, he was the son of the late John Guaraldi from Brazil and Angelina Zambelli from Italy. He was one of four siblings, Yober “Bert”, Yolanda Famularo, and Lillian Courtemarch. In his early years, Eddie lived in Bourne and Springfield before moving to Brockton. He graduated from Brockton High School in 1941 and worked at a shipyard after graduation for 10 months before enlisting in the United States Army.
Eddie served his country with pride and distinction from March 1942 to December 1945 in the United States Army. He was a Sergeant and a member of the 296th Combat Engineer Battalion, Company C.
He fought in five major battles, including Normandy, Battle of the Bulge (Ardenees) Northern France, Rhineland, and Central Europe. In addition, he landed on Omaha Beach during Normandy Landings (D-Day) and was part of the liberation of Buchenwald. Eddie was later awarded the European Campaign Medal and French Legion of Honour Medal.
After he served, he attended school to be a radio and electronic technician and eventually got a job at Central Radio in Brockton fixing televisions and putting up antennas. He eventually opened his own business in 1951, Community Television in Brockton, and ran his family business for 44 years and worked part-time with his eldest son Peter until the age of 80.
Eddie met Rose Marie Altieri on New Years Eve in 1947 and married her in Brockton, MA on October 12, 1950. He is survived by his two sons, Peter and his wife Kelly, and John and his wife, Claudinne; one grandchild, Peter James Guaraldi and his wife Holly; and one great grandson, Luca James Guaraldi. He also leaves his “angel” health caregiver, Yolanda.
Mr. Guaraldi was heavily involved in the Brockton and South Shore communities. Most notably in the later stages of his life, Eddie volunteered at the Brockton Kids Road Races at D.W. Field Park for nearly 15 years, making a positive impact on thousands of children and aspiring athletes. For decades, he was a longtime volunteer and communicant at his local church, Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Brockton. In addition, he attended various veterans-based meetings and events hosted by the Brockton VA Medical Center and the Whitman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post among others.
Eddie and Marie had many hobbies and loved to travel. The couple went to many countries around the world, including various places in Europe, China, Japan, and South America.
He also prides himself on being a handyman, always being available to repair and fix electronics, appliances and accessories for his family. He also looked forward to watching his favorite team, the New England Patriots, play every Sunday during football season.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 9-10:30 am, in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am, in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 433 West Street, Brockton. Interment with military honors will be in Calvary Cemetery, North Cary Street Brockton.
