Edith Silva Centeio, 93, of Brockton formerly of Dorchester and Cabo Verde, passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022, at home with her family. She was the wife of the late Antonio Barbosa Centeio.

Born in Fogo, Cabo Verde on January 10, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Alvaro Da Silva and Maria Lopes.

She immigrated to the United States in 1973 with 4 of her children to join her beloved Antonio and her 3 other children already in the United States. She immediately started working as a seamstress at the Auburn Curtain Company in Roxbury. Edith was courageous and a woman of faith and cared deeply for God, her family, and friends. As a woman of faith, she prayed often and understood her purpose. She enjoyed traveling to her beloved home country Cabo Verde, being around family and friends, dancing and listening to music. She was a great storyteller and gave the best blessings as you part ways.

She was an outstanding and attentive mother to Simao, Antonia, Rita, Claudina, Irlando, Manuel, and Raimundo Centeio. Edith leaves behind 23 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren with 1 on the way, and 2 great-great grandchildren. 4 siblings; Catarina Andrade, Valdomiro Da Silva, Alberto Da Silva, and Maria Dalila Da Silva, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends in the United States and abroad. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Antonio B Centeio, loving sisters Anzulina Silva Pina and Clara Centeio, loving brothers Quintino Antunes and Manuel Da Silva.

Calling hours will be held in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont Street, Brockton on Tuesday, December 20th from 5:00PM to 8:00PM. A funeral mass in St. Edith Stein Parish, 71 East Main St., Brockton on Wednesday, December 21st at 10:00AM. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
