Edward L. Strong Sr., aka Uncle Ed Lee, and Eddie of Brockton, Massachusetts passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at the age of 96 years old. After battling an illness and suffering from dementia, he died peacefully within the care of his eldest son Eddie Strong Jr. and hospice.
Ed Lee was born on February 22, 1927, in Huntsville, Alabama, to the late Cash, Sr. and Georgia (Harris) Strong. He moved to Massachusetts with his wife Alice N. (Edwards) Strong. Eddie worked for many years at the Randolph Manufacturing Company, the maker of Randy Boat-Shus, for many years until it closed. In addition, he worked for, and ultimately retired from, Armstrong World Industries in Braintree, MA.
Eddie enjoyed bowling in earlier years, he played on team leagues and won several bowling trophies. He also enjoyed playing cards and shooting pool on teams, which he taught his children how to play. He could be found at the local lounge enjoying the company of friends and loved ones. He loved James Brown and when one of his songs came on, you could not get him off the dance floor! He cherished simple moments in life like going to the Raynham dog track! He lived each day to the fullest. Above all, he was a devoted family man who would do anything for his kids and loved ones.
Eddie is survived by his children Vera J. Strong of Brockton, Edward Strong, Jr. (Renee) of Brockton, Dara Strong of Weymouth, and Ronnie (Rhonda) Strong of Taunton; his grandchildren: Chekesha (Kesha) Parker, Edward (Ciara) Jones, the late Ronnie Strong, Jr., Jovon Jones, Tayika Plowden, Zaranique (Edward) Pope, Brandon Strong, Ava Jones, Roni-Anne (Derek) Rose Strong, Mystique Watson, Jonathan Aponte Strong, Antwuun Jones, Raheem Strong; and a host of nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and extended family.
Eddie is preceded in death by his wife Alice, children: Dana Strong, his siblings: Beatrice Strong Scruggs, Lucinda Strong Humphrey, Cash Jr., George Strong, Eleanor (Strong) Garner, Willie Strong, and Irene Strong.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and cherished memories that will be forever treasured.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, January 6th from 9:30-11:00 AM in the Russell & Pica Funeral Home, 165 Belmont St., (Rt.123) Brockton followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
