FLAG Marlenga, of Brockton, January 2, 2002 Edward A. Marlenga, 92 years. Husband of the late Christine M. (Godsill) Marlenga. Father of Edward M. Marlenga of Concord and Robert E. Richards of N. Dartmouth. Grandfather of Ashley, Sarah, Shawn, Deanna and Christina. He also leaves a niece Paula Stevens of Brockton.

Funeral Service in the J. Frank Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Saturday at 10:30am. Burial in Melrose Cemetery. Visiting Hours Friday 4-8pm.

Obituary Information

Mr. Marlenga died Wednesday at the Life Care Center of West Bridgewater after a brief illness. Born in Hanover, he was the son of the late Michael and Anna (Eiken) Marlenga. He was raised in Brockton, and graduated from Brockton High School. He had been a resident of the city for 90 years. During WWII he served in the US Army Air Corps, as a Staff Sargent in the 375th and 308th Bombardment Squadrons, flying B-24 bombers. He was a member of the Flying Tigers serving oversees in China, Burma and India Theater of Operations.

He was a member of the Massachusetts Laborers Union for many years. He was an avid follower of Rocky Marciano and Marvin Hagler. He enjoyed playing handball at the Brockton YMCA during the 1930’s and after WWII, playing in and winning many tournaments and championships.

He is survived by

2 sons Edward M. Marlenga of Concord and Robert E. Richards of North Dartmouth, 5 grandchildren, and 1 niece. He was the brother of the late Walter Marlenga and Mary Marlenga.
