Edward J. Spillane, age 93, a lifelong resident of Brockton, passed away on June 1, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband for 60 years of the late Ann Marie (Dolan) Spillane.
Born and raised in Brockton, he was the son of the late Thomas W. and Alice (Doherty) Spillane.
He graduated from Brockton High School and then graduated from Boston University, earning a bachelor’s degree.
Edward worked as a music teacher for the Taunton Public Schools for many years prior to retirement.
Besides teaching music, he was also a musician who played multiple instruments, especially the trumpet and trombone.
Mr. Spillane was a proud member of the American Federation of Musicians with Boston Local 9, as well as Brockton Local 138 since he was in high school and served as treasurer. He was also a member of the South Shore Concert Band and the Cosmo Legion Band. Edward taught lessons at Central Music in Brockton from the 1970s until his retirement in 2020 due to the pandemic.
He also enjoyed fixing watches and fishing during his leisure time.
Edward leaves his three children, Marilyn A. Salvucci of Bridgewater, Michael E. Spillane of Taunton, and Edward T. Spillane of Brockton; his grandchildren Matthew, Nicholas, Michael, Nicole, Delia, and Grace; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Pamela (Spillane) Podgurski and Brian Spillane and brother of the late Thomas Spillane and John Spillane.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 8, 2026, from 8:45 to 9:45am, at the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am, in Christ the King Church, 54 Lyman Street, Brockton. Interment will follow in Saint Thomas Aquinas Cemetery in Bridgewater.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed’s memory can be made to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley St, West Bridgewater, MA 02379.
