IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Eileen L.
Young
August 24, 1926 – November 21, 2023
Our beloved Mother Eileen Young passed away to be with the Lord on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, embraced by the loving arms of God. Born on August 24, 1926 in New York, she was one of three children born to Mr. & Mrs. Morrell.
Mother Young attended Harriet Beecher Stowe Middle School (P.S. 136), an all-girls school in Harlem, New York, near Saint Nicholas Park. After graduation, she attended Central Commercial High School on the east side of mid-town Manhattan, adjacent to the Daily News building. The school emphasized clerical studies as professional preparation for graduating and obtaining a job.
Mother Young's high school years coincided with the WWII era. As such, her commencement in 1945 would also be the year ending the earthly life of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. During those wartime years, high school youth attended school for half a day, allowing the children to work after school until 5pm. One of those jobs which employed Mother Young was the famous Horn & Hardart automated restaurant in New York. At this early age, Mother Young cultivated a strong work ethic and began what manifested as a long, dedicated road of public service.
Eileen L. Young, affectionately and respectfully known to us as Mother Young, was one of the founding members of The Lighthouse Of Faith In Christ Jesus. She gave us love and practical understanding of finances in establishing the church. Mother Young garnered extensive experience through her federal position as a professional accountant. She generously shared her insight with the church as she was genuinely dedicated to the community. She exemplified real class, and had enormous faith and perseverance in the Lord!
Mother Young was a lady of exceptional sophistication and unique style. She was gifted and kind, and a creative seamstress. She displayed her interest in African fabrics and an array of quality textiles through her flair and exuberance! She worked with her hands and her heart, and often stepped out in her own original designs to the admiration of many.
Mother Young presented a new vanguard in ministry, encouraging us to also be creative and innovative pioneers, while maintaining poise and dignity! Her love for the Lord God has been consistently true and sincerely heartfelt, as was her love for all of God's people!
Preceded in passing by her parents Mr. & Mrs. Morrell, and by her dear brother and sister, Mother Young leaves her nephews Lawrence Perry and Stanley Perry, Esq. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to cherish her memory; and, a host of extended/church family and friends who will hold eternal love for her.
