Eugenia “Jean” (Gomes) Horton, lovingly known as “GiGi”, age 80, of Brockton, died peacefully, October 7, 2017 at her home surrounded by family. Jean was the loving wife of the late Randolph C. Horton. Born in Falmouth, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Fernandes) Gomes. Jean was raised in Wareham and was a graduate of West Wareham High School. She had been a resident of Brockton for the past 47 years and worked in the Brockton Public School Department for 33 years. Jean loved spending time with her family, gardening and traveling. She also enjoyed playing Mahjong and Bingo at the Brockton Senior Center’s Council on Aging.
Jean was the mother of Randolph Horton II and his wife Bonnie, Wayne and his wife Michelle, Philip and his significant other Sharry Leavitt all of Brockton and Janine Porter and her husband Syndey of Bridgewater; grandmother of Jiro, Elyse, Kayla, Kasharena, Philip, Jr., Randolph, III, Jaden and Jett; great grandmother of Jeron and Philip, III; and sister of Benjamin Gomes of Brockton, Mary Gomes of Wareham, Edward Gomes of Onset and the late John, Domingo, Joseph, Antone and Robert Gomes and Leroy Gonsalves. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, (Rte 123) Brockton, Tuesday 6-9pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Wednesday at 10am for a funeral Mass in Christ the King Parish at 11am. Burial will follow in Melrose Cemetery. Donations may be made in Jean’s name to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley Street, West Bridgewater, MA 02379.
